This talk presents an overview of statistical inference in molecular evolution, emphasizing its critical role in understanding the evolutionary history of organisms through genomic data analysis. The presentation comprises two main segments: firstly, a foundational exploration of nucleotide substitution models, and secondly, the introduction of a Bayesian method for estimating population/species level evolutionary history parameters. Through simulated and real DNA sequence datasets, we underscore its importance in contemporary evolutionary biology research.
